Doing the Right Thing
"The greatest gift is a portion of thyself."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
As a filmmaker, Shelton "Spike" Lee '79 was aware of the power of the media to influence public perception. As an avid sports lover, the Morehouse alumnus knew there were few African-American journalists writing or editing articles about high-profile sports. And as a member of the College's Board of Trustees, he wanted to do his share to make an impact on his alma mater.
Lee raised $1 million to start a Journalism and Sports Program at Morehouse, the first of its scope and size at any historically black college. Morehouse is grateful for the generosity of supporters like Spike Lee and committed to good stewardship.
