Giving Makes a Real Difference

During the College’s last capital campaign, Morehouse surpassed its goal of $105.7 million by $12.3 million. The College received 21 gifts of $1 million or more.

Everyone who supports Morehouse College helps to make a difference in the lives of students.  The College’s legacy of leadership has thrived because supporters know that their donations mean young men educated at Morehouse will go on to enrich their communities, the nation and the world.

Morehouse alumnus Clarence “Kappa” Brown ’40 understood the importance of giving back to his alma mater.  He took seriously then-President Benjamin E. Mays’ charge to students to donate at least 1 percent of their salary each month to Morehouse.  Brown began making regular contributions to the College from the time he received his first check from the New York Transit Authority in 1940 until he died in 2007 at age 89.

In an interview, he said, “Over time, I realized that 1 percent was simply not enough for all that Morehouse had done for me.”

“Kappa” Brown knew that his gifts to Morehouse made a real difference in students’ lives and ultimately in the wider community.  Learn more about the Impact of Giving.
