Giving Societies Honor Top Donors

“The wise man does not lay up his own treasures.  The more he gives to others, the more he has for his own.”
                                                                               - Lao Tzu

"When you empower a black man, you light up the world."  Oprah Winfrey uttered those powerful words in 2004, when she was honored by Morehouse College for a lifetime of humanitarian service.  That night, the entertainment mogul, educator and philanthropist donated $5 million to the Oprah Winfrey Endowed Scholarship Fund, bringing her total contributions to the College to $12 million.

We invite you to join Oprah Winfrey, Shelton “Spike” Lee '79 and other top donors who belong to the Leadership Circle at Morehouse College.  This society of contributors honors the vision, energy and commitment of great men whose unique gifts built the legacy of excellence that has shaped the College for nearly a century and a half.

The Henry Lyman Morehouse Society recognizes the widely respected minister, trustee and educator for whom the College was named. Members of this society support Morehouse from $100,000 to $249.999, either through one-time gifts or cumulative giving.

The John Hope Society is dedicated to the first African-American president of Morehouse, a man who set the standard of excellent and commitment to community service that remain hallmarks of the College. Members of this group support Morehouse from $250,000 to $499.999.

The Howard W. Thurman Society honors one of the most influential theologians of the 20th century. Members of this society support Morehouse at or above the $500,000 level.

The Benjamin E. Mays Society is named for the sixth president of Morehouse, who served during the College's most significant period of expansion. Members of this society support the College at or above the $1 million level.

By sharing your financial gifts and joining the Leadership Circle, you will continue the legacy of excellence at Morehouse College.
